Traditional Wallpaper Installation

BEFORE YOU START

• Surfaces to be covered with traditional wallpaper must be clean and smooth. Loose paint or other wallcoverings must be removed.

• Nailheads, nicks, gouges, and other surface imperfections should be filled, sanded smooth, and sealed.

• On new walls, drywall joints should be taped, bedded, and sanded smooth.

• This wallpaper can be installed over almost any surface that has been properly prepared.

• Do not install this wallpaper over ballpoint pen markings, wax crayons, ink markers, oil-based stains, or any foreign matter that may bleed through the vinyl.

• If your wall isn’t smooth, you’ll need to either size the wall or apply a wallpaper liner which might require a primer layer as well.

Step 1: PREPARE

PAINT / PRIME WALLS FIRST

• You can install this wallpaper over any latex paint that has cured (dried) for twenty-one days.

• Do not install this wallpaper over regular latex primer. It will be difficult to "slide" around on the wall, and the primer may chip off under the wallpaper.

• If your wallpaper design is light-coloured or white, a dark-coloured paint may show through the wallpaper.

LAYOUT YOUR WALLPAPER

• Unroll and separate your wallpaper panels. Let them uncurl until flat on the floor before starting.

• Look for Tile Numbers labelled on the edge of each panel, then arrange them in order as shown in the graphic.

• Each panel comes with a horizontal 1” overlap for a seamless installation.

MAKE YOUR MARKS

• On the left side of your wall, measure out from the corner, 23.5” W to 24” W and mark the wall lightly with a pencil or with tape.

• Put your level / plumb on this mark and draw (OR use the tape) to make a straight, level, vertical line from floor to ceiling. This line is the guide for your first panel later.

Step 2: INSTALL

PASTE YOUR WALLPAPER

• Spread the adhesive evenly on the back of each roll by starting from the center and gradually moving towards the edges.

• Ensure that the paste covers the entire length and width of the ribbon uniformly.

PASTE YOUR WALLPAPER

• Fold the roll bringing the top and bottom edges toward the center, ensuring the glued sides meet each other, and properly align the side edges.

• Carefully roll it up after folding the wallpaper, ensuring it does not roll up or dry too quickly.

• Leave it like this for about 5 to 7 minutes so that the glue is absorbed and the paper expands and settles into its new shape. This will keep the adhesive wet and make it easier to handle.

INSTALLING THE FIRST PANEL

• For best results, install with two people.

• Start at the top left corner with Tile #1, place the first panel on the wall and slide it against the plumb line. You can slide the panel on the wall for up to 2 minutes, making it easy to line up.

• Ensure there is at least 1-2” of excess wallpaper pattern to trim at the ceiling and baseboard.

• Gently smooth the air bubbles out with your sponge smoother. Be careful to avoid pressing paste out. Any air bubbles left will disappear and flatten in 24 hours.

• Keep the sponge clean, and rinse often if needed.

INSTALLING REMAINING PANELS

• Repeat the procedure by aligning your next panel to the right edge of the previous panel and overlapping the new panel 1" to the left for a seamless finish.

• Pre-pasted wallpaper slides around on the wall for a couple of minutes, so it's easy for you to match the pattern up at the seams.

• Ensure each panel is straight with your level.

Step 3: TRIM

GRAB YOUR RULER

• Only cut and trim the wallpaper once it is on the wall and still wet using your sharp X-acto knife.

• Change the blade often to help keep a smooth, clean cut since wet wallpaper is more prone to tearing.

• Trim the excess off at the ceiling, baseboards, corners and around windows.

• Gently wipe the seam, baseboard and ceiling with a damp cloth to remove the residual paste.
